                                         Mission Overview

What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.
Saint Augustine

We’ve often thought how we could describe love and Saint Augustine could not have explained it better. We feel we’re privileged to be able to go into the disadvantaged areas of the Philippines and help men, women, and children have visual aspects corrected as well as help with medical problems to make them more whole. The Filipino people are gracious, forever smiling, and thankful for SOS coming into their areas to provide them with medical care. Filipino people have become a part of us; they have become part of our family. SOS is just 2 years old but we are working diligently on expanding our mission to help more, give more, and increase the quantity of patients we can see while in the Philippines. Our goal is endless but always visible.

Our first trip took place in 2010 in the Republic of the Philippines, Province Of Bataan in the Municipality Of Dinalupihan. We were there under the Bay Area Surgical Mission’s license. Dr. Josh Gottschall, founder of our SOS Mission wanted to be able to expand boundaries in order to provide aid for more people.

Our second trip took place in 2012 in the Republic of the Philippines, Province of Camarines Sur, Municipality Of Tiagon. This would be our last year we would need to operate under BASM license.

June 2012 we are officially Surgery OverSeas, Inc. a nonprofit organization, with a license of our own. Our next trip is January 2013. We will be traveling back to Dinalupihan Philippines. Our goal is to grow into an organization that will have the means to expand to other Countries, help establish hospitals in disadvantaged areas and help as many people as possible.

There are approximately 30 of us at this time. Surgeons, Medical Doctors, Anesthesia, Nurses, Surgical Techs, and Instrument Techs. We have Head and Neck Surgeons, General Surgeons, and Gynecologists as well as Medical Surgical Residents. Our Anesthesiologists are invaluable. We have become a family doing what we were trained to do. Doing what we love to do and each smile, each thank you, each gesture of gratitude gives us the confirmation that we are doing what’s right. Giving the Filipino people what they deserve. Medical Assistance.
